Life at 2.5 degrees - Karim Jebari and Emma Engström in Swedish radio series about life in the year 2100

Karim Jebari and Emma Engström were featured guests in the Swedish radio programme “Livet vid 2,5 grader” (“Life at 2.5 degrees”). In episode 1, which is about the dangers of extreme heat in future cities, Karim talked about the importance of the rate at which temperatures rises for society’s conditions to adapt, especially in poor countries.

In episode 3, about the relationship between food and the environment, Emma described possible strategies to reduce the effect of food production on the climate, suggested in her and Karim’s recent article. These includes vertical farming, genetic modification of grains and, most importantly, better substitutes to meat.

Karim also participated in episode 5, which focuses on how climate change threatens the security of societies. He explained the term “polycrisis”, which is about how different crises can affect and reinforce each other. This term can be useful in understanding the effect of climate change on the security and stability of society.
